A Nod To The Past

I just received this fab poster to go up on the village notice board. I think its great! :o) The Bin Less Grow Your Own is my favourite! Theres nothing glamourous about war or conflict & I know some folks find others enthusiasm for the *War Years* to be in bad taste~my own opinion is its the community spirit & get up & get on with it attitude that shine from those dark years, still shine on now in fact.

Times when people thought of others, thought of their effect on things before they did something, dont waste electric, dont waste food, dont throw things away willynilly,re use & repair things was second nature to nearly everyone rather than falling into *green niche* behaviour as some of the papers would label it these days. Almost portraying responsible, frugal behaviour into something that requires lots of money grrrrrr tosh tosh.

My view is I dont care what washing up liquid someone uses or what soap or what brand of loo roll as long as they use it sparingly & with respect. Dont go squirting things left right & centre, dont go using masses of something. Frugally does it now.......If theres a stretch in your budget then yes of course buy Ecover or organic flour, but in the meantime altering behaviour from free & easy consumers to frugal stars! is the way to go & something that EVERYONE can do.

So if a few more folks give a little more thinking space to these matters inspired by some great looking vintage style posters then thats a good thing I reckon :o) What do you think of the poster style? & what have you done or plan to do to to make things go further? Have you decided that you can quite happily do without some things now?

I can waffle on this for ages but the smalls are champing at the bit for a walk & theres pigs & posters to get done :o)

Nodding here in agreement.

Not having lived through WW2, what I know is only from books, tv and relatives' memories, but I got a big sense of the community spirit and working together which I don't think we have so much nowadays - there was more of a spirit of sharing and making do, whereas now there is more of a "me, me, me" culture, which I hate. I wouldn't want the war but I do envy the closeness of the community life.
